Just Right Kids

In 2011, Anna Jaques Hospital created and delivered a comprehensive "Farm to Table" curriculum to Newburyport preschools and daycare centers.

The Anna Jaques Just Right Kids program was created thanks to a generous grant from the Charles and Marianne Small Foundation. The program teaches portion control and healthy eating to children age 5 and younger. The Just Right Kids turnkey program includes written curriculum and hands-on teaching tools for teachers, play-and-learn pieces for students, and education materials for parents. Some of the teaching modules include, "How does food travel from nature to your belly?", "What on earth is a legume?" and "Wheat Wednesday"!

A Season to Celebrate!

Anna Jaques Hospital is pleased to support the Newburyport Farmer's Market all season long. With locally grown produce, handmade crafts, and live music every Sunday morning, what's not to love?

Plus, buying local produce means supporting family-run farms that support environmentally friendly farming methods, such as eliminating the need for chemical preservatives.

But we love supporting the Newburyport Farmer's Market for another reason: it helps people make one change by trying fruits and veggies they may not have considered. Say, Swiss Chard? Did you know it is packed full of nutritional goodness? And since you are buying it from the people that grow it, they can share helpful cooking tips and delicious recipes with you.

For a comprehensive list of farmers markets, farm stands, and community-supported agriculture, see below!

Enjoy!

CSAs, Farm Stands, and Farmers Markets

Here is a list of local CSAs, farm stands, and farmers markets. As you can see, our community is abundant in farm-fresh fruits, veggies, honey, eggs, cheeses, and meats. What is a CSA? Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) connects local farmers to consumers by having customers buy a 'share' in the farm. Each week, share holders pick up their basket of in-season produce. It's a great way to get to know your local farmer, and try new foods.

To learn more about our food supply and our nation's farmers, please visit the USDA's alternative farming systems website here.

Do you have a suggestion for the list? Please email it to Jennifer Karin, publicrelations@ajh.org.
